Pregnancy, childbirth, hormonal imbalances, aging, and weight fluctuations can reshape and elongate the breasts in unflattering ways. At Rao Plastic & Hand Surgery, we understand the role that youthful, fuller breasts play in self-confidence and that beauty is a natural, uniquely tailored desire. Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Arun Rao works with patients throughout Tucson, AZ, providing customized breast lift surgeries to restore breasts to help meet patients’ goals.

What is breast lift surgery?

Breast lift surgery is a cosmetic surgical procedure that contours breast tissue by carefully trimming away excess fat and skin while simultaneously tightening tissue to give the breasts a natural lift. By doing so, this process gives breast tissue a perkier, younger appearance. As women age, it’s common for breast tissue to sag due to weight change, childbirth, and nursing. At Rao Plastic & Hand Surgery, Dr. Rao assesses each patient’s cosmetic needs and goals to determine individualized breast lift surgical plans.

How perky can my breasts get with breast lift surgery?

Breast lift surgery performed by a skilled surgeon can provide the breasts with a natural-looking lift and a perkier appearance. However, if patients are looking for a fuller look, they can consult with Dr. Rao about enhancing their breast lift surgery with additional services, including breast augmentation with the use of an implant. The combined lift and augmentation procedure is often used for patients looking for reduced sagging and increased volume.

Other benefits of breast lift surgery

Breast lift surgery provides patients with numerous benefits, including:

  • Breast symmetry

  • Reducing sagging tissue

  • Decreasing oversized or stretch areolas

  • Better-fitting tops and bras

  • Long-lasting results

What the surgical process is like

Breast lift surgery takes approximately two hours to complete using general anesthesia. Dr. Rao makes the smallest incisions possible to reduce potential scarring; however, incisions will appear differently depending on the surgical plan recommended. Excessive skin and breast tissue are removed, and the nipples are repositioned for a natural, lifted look. If you opted for a breast augmentation, the breast implants are placed first before excess tissue is removed, and the breasts are lifted and repositioned. Once you have been approved for discharge, you can return home for recovery.

What recovery looks like after breast lift surgery

Patients should plan to take the first week off from work and other strenuous activities. Typically, patients will feel fatigued, sore, and tender for the first few weeks after surgery. Avoid lifting anything over ten pounds and reaching over the head for the first week or so. Patients are sent home with adhesive bandages and a support bra. Once you’ve attended your first follow-up appointment and have been approved, you can start wearing regular bras. Patients should continue to avoid strenuous activities for at least six weeks, but many patients can return to work after one week.

Will my breast lift surgery results last?

Breast lift surgery results can last for many years. However, certain lifestyle changes can impact your surgical outcomes, including:

  • Weight gain

  • Weight loss

  • Pregnancy

  • Childbirth

If you get pregnant after your breast lift and it compromises your surgical results, you may consult with Dr. Rao about a refresher procedure.
