When to Have Your Mommy Makeover
Many women come in for a consultation years after having children to talk about having an operation called a mommy makeover, combining breast enhancement and a tummy tuck. Each woman I see at my Tucson practice has her own reasons for postponing surgery: perhaps a lack of time or uncertainty over future pregnancies. But almost all of the patients later tell me that they wish they hadn’t waited so long.
If you’re interested in rejuvenating your figure and your confidence through this transformative procedure, timing is critical. The time may be right for you if:
- You’re finished having children. One of the main procedures performed during a mommy makeover is a tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty. In most cases, this involves repairing damage to abdominal muscles caused by pregnancy and removing excess skin and stubborn pockets of fat. A future pregnancy would compromise these cosmetic results and necessitate a revision procedure, so most patients wait until they’re done having children.
- You’ve reached your goal weight. A mommy makeover is primarily designed to contour your body and create shapely, perky breasts, either with breast augmentation alone or combined with a breast lift. Many women get liposuction, as well. If you gain or lose a significant amount of weight after these kinds of treatments, you may compromise your results.
- You have time to recover. No one needs to remind mothers about the demands of small children. If you’ve got a good support system of friends and family who can help out during your recovery, that’s great. You won’t be able to lift anything heavy — meaning a small child — for at least a couple of weeks. It’s important to take the time you need to recover to avoid risking post-surgical complications.
Based on these considerations, it becomes clearer that the “right” time to plan a mommy makeover depends largely on your personal circumstances. I’m pleased to talk you through these factors and help you come up with a plan that fits into your lifestyle. Contact my office to get started.
