Eyelid surgery specialist in Tucson discusses how the treatment can benefit your appearance.
Patients come to our Tucson office stating that they have friends or co-workers who frequently ask whether they are tired. Regardless of how much sleep you got the night before, your eyes may be giving you a tired appearance.
As we age, we lose elasticity in our skin, and the upper or lower eyelids can sag. Sometimes people can have excess fat deposits in their upper and lower eyelids, leading to bags under the eyes. There is a remedy to give your eyes, and in turn your whole face, a rejuvenated and youthful look, and that is with eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty.
Getting that glow back
Most moms struggle to take time for themselves. Often times they are juggling family and work while also trying to have a personal life. Getting their body back can be low on the priority list. A mommy makeover is a fantastic way for a mom to give back to herself after being pregnant. The boost received from a mommy makeover can help a mom feel desirable and sexy again. Another benefit of a mommy makeover, performed by an experienced and board-certified plastic surgeon like Dr. Rao, is that more than one area can be transformed during the procedure. It means a mom only preps for one day in surgery and one recovery period instead of prepping for multiple surgeries at different times.
How It Works
A blepharoplasty is an outpatient procedure I perform in Tucson that removes excess skin from the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both.
- Upper eyelid surgery: My philosophy for improving the upper eyelid aesthetic involves removing excess skin while preserving volume. As we age, we lose volume in our face, and that volume loss is what gives us the appearance of being older.
- Lower eyelid surgery: For the lower eyelids, I remove skin and the extra fat in the lower eyelid. The lower eyelids have 3 separate compartments that contain fat. I remove the fat through a transconjunctival incision, which is an incision on the internal surface of the lower eyelid. The advantage of the transconjunctival incision is that it drastically reduces the risk of scar tissue development that can lead to eyelid malposition.
Your Procedure
I perform the eyelid surgery in an outpatient surgery center in Tucson. You arrive an hour prior to surgery, and the blepharoplasty takes about 1 to 2 hours depending on whether you are getting an upper lid blepharoplasty, lower lid blepharoplasty, or both. You spend about an hour in the recovery room after the surgery.
Recovery & Results
The recovery for eyelid surgery is typically 5 to 7 days. The aftercare involves applying antibiotic ointment to the incisions and using eye drops. I also recommend that you sleep with your head elevated and that you ice the incisions intermittently to help with swelling. The majority of swelling resolves in the first week after surgery.
After the procedure, you will be able to enjoy having your eyes and your whole face look refreshed. Friends and family will notice a more youthful appearance.
