Dr. Rao dedicates the necessary time to comprehensively understand his patients’ cosmetic aspirations. Education & Training

Dr. Rao grew up in the suburbs of Chicago and went to Northwestern University for his undergraduate degree. After Northwestern Dr. Rao went to medical school in Puerto Rico. Subsequently, he completed his residency in general surgery at Michigan State University, where he received numerous accolades for his contributions to medical student education. While in his general surgery residency Dr. Rao achieved the highest scores on the American Board of Surgery Inservice Training Exam in four out of his five years of training during his time at Michigan State University. Following the successful completion of his general surgery residency, he became board-certified in general surgery after passing the written and oral exams administered by the American Board of Surgery.
Dr. Rao furthered his medical training by undertaking a fellowship in burn surgery at Cook County Hospital in Chicago, IL. Cook County Hospital boasts one of the nation’s oldest and busiest burn centers. After his year-long experience in burn surgery, Dr. Rao embarked on a fellowship in plastic and reconstructive surgery at the University of Louisville. During this specialized training, he had the privilege of learning from leading experts in breast and facial aesthetics, as well as body contouring. It is worth noting that Dr. Rao’s exceptional performance in plastic surgery earned him the Academic Achievement award, and he was also appointed as the chief resident in plastic and reconstructive surgery during his time at the University of Louisville. Following completion of his training Dr. Rao moved to Tucson, AZ to set up Rao Plastic Surgery. Dr. Rao became board certified in plastic surgery in 2013 after passing a series of rigorous written and oral exams.

Dr. Rao is deeply dedicated to his Tucson, AZ community and takes great pride in caring for patients throughout Southern Arizona. Outside of Rao Plastic Surgery, he cherishes quality time spent with his wife and two children. Dr. Rao loves all sports with a particular passion for golfing. Dr. Rao also enjoys rooting for both University of Arizona and Northwestern Wildcats athletics. He also loves going on long runs with his beloved Labrador Retriever, Penny Lane. In addition to these pursuits, Dr. Rao can be found giving back to the Tucson community, which has been so wonderful to him and his family.
